Photographers

Στην παρακάτω λίστα περιλαμβάνονται 100 φωτογράφοι, από τις αρχές της Φωτογραφίας  μέχρι τις ημέρες μας, το έργο των οποίων μέσα από  φωτογραφίες και βιβλία θα πρέπει να γνωρίζει κάθε ένας που ασχολείται σοβαρά με την καλλιτεχνική φωτογραφία. Ο αριθμός 100 προφανώς αποκλείει και πολλούς άλλους αξιόλογους, καθώς προτιμήθηκε να συμπεριληφθούν και πιο μέτριοι φωτογράφοι, ώστε να υπάρχει μια πιο μεγάλη αντιπροσώπευση των τάσεων και «ρευμάτων» στα διακόσια περίπου χρόνια της ιστορίας της. Αποκλείστηκαν φωτογράφοι με γραφιστικές προσεγγίσεις, μικτές τεχνικές και παραμόρφωσης-απαλοιφής στο τελικό αποτέλεσμα της αρχικής  πραγματικότητας με στόχο την δημιουργία ενός εικαστικού προϊόντος. Αντίθετα έχουν συμπεριληφθεί φωτογράφοι από εφαρμοσμένους τομείς όπως το  φωτορεπορτάζ ή η μόδα, γιατί περισσότερο χρησιμοποίησαν αυτή τη φωτογραφία σαν «ένδυμα» για το  έργο τους, αλλά και γιατί η  ευκολότερη κατανόησή τους -όπως και αρκετών άλλων του καταλόγου- βοηθά στην προσέγγιση των πραγματικά μεγάλων.  Δεν συμπεριλαμβάνονται τέλος σημαντικοί και αξιόλογοι Έλληνες φωτογράφοι, σύγχρονοι και παλαιότεροι, για ευνόητους λόγους.

The following list includes 100 photographers, from the beginnings of Photography to the present days, whose work through photographs and books should be known to anyone who is serious about artistic photography. The number 100 obviously excludes many other notables, as it was preferred to include more mediocre photographers so that there would be a greater representation of trends and “currents” in its nearly two hundred years history. Photographers with graphic approaches, mixed techniques and distortion-elimination in the final result of the original reality with the aim of creating a visual product were excluded. Instead, photographers from applied fields such as photojournalism or fashion have been included, because they mostly used this photography as a “clothing” for their work, but also because their easier understanding – like several others in the catalog – helps to approach the really big ones. Finally, important and notable Greek photographers, contemporary and older, are not included, for obvious reasons.
